The reigning champions of English football have 115 Financial Fair Play charges hanging over their head. They have watched on anxiously as the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest have been stung with points deductions this season – with some suggesting that the severity of City’s breaches could lead to them being demoted from the top tier.

According to the , the Premier League is ready to revise the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) that are currently in place. That could work in City’s favour, while big-spending Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on developments alongside the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa. They both feared that they may have to sell, despite forcing their way into top-four contention of late, in a bid to balance the books.

Leading clubs are said to consider the punishments handed out to Everton and Forest to be “draconian”, while there is a fear that the Premier League could lose its standing at the top of world football if ambitious outfits are not allowed to splash the cash.
